September 24, 2020 -Niagara-on-the-Lake- The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is pleased to be working with RealTerm Energy, a streetlight conversion provider, to convert 598 streetlights to decorative LED fixtures. Switching to LED streetlighting aids in decreasing carbon emissions by approximately 151 metric tons annually. These state-of-the-art fixtures promote significant energy savings and a reduced carbon footprint for the entire community, while providing the pleasing vintage look of a decorative styled luminaire. By installing LED streetlights, the Town will benefit from significant energy efficiency and cost savings, reduced maintenance, improved lighting quality and greater roadway safety for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
“RealTerm Energy’s design team has demonstrated that within the first year of installment, the Town will see a 67% increase in energy savings,” stated Interim CAO Sheldon Randall.
“Additionally, we anticipate a 44% reduction in streetlighting costs, which can in turn be

The project will be jointly financed by RealTerm Energy and the Town through an Energy
Performance Contract (EPC). EPC is an innovative financing technique that uses cost savings from reduced energy consumption to repay the cost of installing the energy-efficient LED technology without having to burden taxpayers with the cost. The installation of the new LED decorative fixtures will begin in October 2020 and is expected
to finish by December 2020.
